The El Paso Chihuahuas ended their six city, season-opening road trip with a 6-5 victory over the Sacramento River Cats Sunday at Raley Field. Chihuahuas starting pitcher Billy Buckner allowed just one run in five innings of work in his Padres’ organization debut.

El Paso went ahead 4-0 in the third inning on an RBI single by Jeff Francoeur and a three-run home run by Tommy Medica, his first career Triple-A homer. After a fifth inning run by Sacramento, Kyle Blanks hit a two-run homer to left field in the sixth, giving El Paso a 6-1 lead. The homer was the seventh of the season for Blanks, the second-highest total in the Pacific Coast League this season.

Sacramento scored twice in the ninth and put the tying and winning runs on base, but El Paso’s Blaine Boyer got Nate Freiman to pop out and end the game. El Paso outfielders Reymond Fuentes and Kyle Blanks left the game after a sixth inning collision in left center field.

Kyle Blanks makes it 6-1 Chihuahuas.
