El Paso’s comeback effort fell short Thursday night at Raley Field, as the Chihuahuas lost to the Sacramento River Cats 10-8. El Paso trailed at one point 9-1 and scored four times in the sixth and three times in the eighth, but went down in order in the ninth inning. The River Cats won three of the four games in the series and have now won nine of their last 11.

After falling behind 5-0 early, El Paso scored once in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Jeff Francoeur, his eighth homer of the season and second at Raley Field. The Chihuahuas sixth inning rally consisted of Rocky Gale’s RBI single and a three-run home run by Tommy Medica, who went 3-for-4 and fell a triple shy of a cycle after entering the game in a 1-for-35 slump. The Chihuahuas three runs in the eighth came on a two-run double by Tyler Greene and an RBI single by Jace Peterson.

El Paso starter Juan Oramas allowed eight runs, all earned, in 3.2 innings of work. Newcomer Jerry Sullivan allowed two runs in 2.1 innings in his Triple-A debut, the same day he arrived from Double-A San Antonio. The Chihuahuas will not play at Raley Field again this season. El Paso won three of the eight games in Sacramento this year.

The Chihuahuas got on the board in the fourth with a Jeff Francoeur solo home run.

The slump looks to be over for Tommy Medica as he blasted a 3-Run home run in the sixth to make it 9-5.

Tyler Greene made it 10-7 with a 2-Run double in the eighth inning.
