Chapin Huskies Looking to Turn Things Around Against Parkland Matadors in Northeast Showdown

Disappointed is the only word to describe how the Chapin Husky football team feels. For a second week in a row Chapin lost. The Huskies look forward to turning the season around against northeast foe Parkland. This week's matchup will play out at Irvin HS at 7 p.m.

Walking into the Burges football locker room, the mission is clear. The words, “Payback Tour 2011” hang on the white board, and players can’t miss it.

Cathedral High School was the first on the “tour” schedule. Burges paid back the Irish in a 35-7 win after losing to them last year.

After scoring a touchdown just minutes into the first quarter using some trickery against the Mustangs last Friday, the Irish just couldn't hold of Burges' ground attack, losing our first game of the 2011 season 35-7.

Football Friday Nights- Applebees Top Ten

The season is still early, but some trends are starting to show. Americas, El Dorado, Franklin, and Montwood look like they will be the cream of 1-5A. Riverside is as exciting as anyone. Burges and Horizon look like they will be for real, while Austin appears to be on the way back. Del Valle should climb back up the rankings. Traditional powers Coronado and Canutillo are struggling to find offense.

Football Friday Nights- Week One Offensive Statistical Leaders

As far as excitement goes week one of the high school season had plenty of it.  Franklin took San Angelo Central to five overtimes before falling 41-35.  The Horizon 'cardiac' Scorpions stung El Paso high 21-20 in overtime.  The Midland teams are up to their old tricks.  Lee rolled Coronado 42-3 in El Paso while the Midland Bulldogs drubbed Del Valle 44-14.
