UTEP Hires Sean Kugler As 25th Head Football Coach

Former UTEP player and coach Sean Kugler was named the 25th head coach of the Miners on Monday. Kugler was on the UTEP staff from 1993-2000, compensation is being negotiated and will require approval by the UT System Board of Regents.

UTEP Wins Their Second Straight Game With A 64-60 Victory Over Idaho

 

The UTEP Miners squandered an 18 point lead, but held on to win their second consecutive game by defeating Idaho 64-60.  The Miners were fortunate to get the win, considering that they were held to just two field goals over the final 12:15 of the game.

The UTEP Miners won for the first time since their opening night victory over Oral Roberts by knocking off their oldest rival, NMSU.  The energetic crowd of 9,366 witnessed a classic battle between these two that was often tied, and came down to the final minute of the game, where UTEP prevailed.

Miners 55, Aggies 54: Floyd, Menzies on How UTEP Pulled Out Gutsy Win [VIDEO]

UTEP head coach Tim Floyd and NMSU head coach Marvin Menzies were each gracious to the other, but someone had to win the first Battle of I-10. That would be the Miners...barely. Freshman Chris Washburn sank two clutch free throws with just under six seconds left in the game to turn a 54-53 deficit into a 55-54 UTEP win. Floyd and Menzies spoke to the media after the game.
