Line Drive Breaks Rockies Pitcher Juan Nicasio’s Neck [VIDEO]

During the second inning of a Friday-night game between the Washington Nationals and the Colorado Rockies, Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond hit a hard line drive toward the mound. Rockies rookie pitcher, Juan Nicasio, had only enough time to turn his head before the ball bounced off it, dropping him to the ground and breaking his neck.

He underwent surgery at the Denver Health Medical Center for a fracture of the C-1 vertebrae and remains in serious but stable condition.

Bubba Smith, ‘Police Academy’ and NFL Star, Dead at 66

Charles Aaron “Bubba” Smith, who was a feared defense end for the Baltimore Colts and found a Hollywood career in retirement, was found dead at his home on Wednesday. He was 66. The cause of death has not yet been announced.

Perhaps best known for his role as Lt. Moses Hightower in the ‘Police Academy’ film series, the 6-foot-7 Smith was the number one overall pick in the 1967 National Football League draft and played nine seasons in the NFL.

Several notable Hollywood stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, were reportedly involved in an illegal, underground poker game that took place at an upscale hotel, and now Major League Baseball is reportedly investigating whether the Yankees’ star shortstop Alex Rodriguez was one of the game’s players.
