As tennis’ US Open gets underway, The Wall Street Journal offered a glimpse into what makes Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic so spectacular. Djokovic spends time inside of a $75,000 CVAC pod, a sort of egg-shaped pressurized oxygen chamber, the he believes helps his fitness and footwork.

There are reportedly only about 20 in the entire world.

Did Former Baltimore Orioles Great Mike Flanagan Commit Suicide Because the Team Is Terrible?

The Baltimore Orioles received awful news late Wednesday night amid word that former pitcher Mike Flanagan had been found dead. Local affiliate WBAL is reporting that Flanagan was so despondent over the poor performance of the organization in recent years that it drove him to suicide.

Flanagan, the 1979 American League Cy Young Award winner, was a pivotal part of the Orioles’ 1983 World Series team, going 12-4 that season. After his career ended in 1992, Flanagan stayed in baseball as an executive. In the 2000s, he found his way back to Baltimore, holding the top baseball executive position in the organization.

Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt announced on Tuesday that she has been diagnosed with early onset dementia, but that the condition won’t hold her back from the coaching.

The 59-year-old legend, who has more wins than any other coach in NCAA history, eight national championships, and an Olympic gold medal, was diagnosed in May.

East Coast Rocked by Earthquake, Pentagon Evacuated

An earthquake epicentered in Virginia occurred Tuesday afternoon, with people in Washington, DC, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Toronto reporting they felt the tremors, as well.

Reports thus far indicate the quake registered a 5.9 on the Richter scale, and the USGS says it’s the most powerful quake to hit Virginia since 1897.

This was no movie stunt.

Tom Cruise got to test drive a race car at a track in California this week, where the actor did 24 laps in the Red Bull F1 car. Former driver and 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard instructed the ‘Days of Thunder’ star before he let Cruise take hold of the wheel of the 850-horsepower car, reaching speeds of 181 mph.

During the eighth inning of Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday was taken out of the lineup when he got the most unusual of sports injuries? What happened? Well, a moth flew into his right ear and wouldn’t come out.

“He had a moth fly into his ear, deep in his ear,” manager Tony La Russa said.
