Canutillo's stingy defense and stellar performance by junior quarterback Javier Gomez proved to be too much for Eastlake to handle on Friday night at Lowenberg Stadium.

Canutillo's defense which was only allowing 8.9 points per game, completely shut down Eastlake's explosive offense.  It was the first time all season that Eastlake was shut out.  Canutillo's quarterback Javier Gomez had the game of his life, as he almost single handedly beat the Falcons.

Gomez rushed for 241 yards, scored 5 rushing TD's, including scores of 61 and 69 yards.  The Eagles added a couple of other rushing touchdowns when running back Jonathan Luna scored on a 1 yard run in the third quarter, and Andrew Alarcon scored on a 19 yard touchdown to start the 4th quarter.

This was quite a statement win for Canutillo, keep in mind that they held Friendship to only 14 points in week 0 and narrowly lost to 1-5A powerhouse Montwood 21-20.  With the victory Canutillo moves to 6-2 overall, 6-0 in District 2-4A.  Next Friday they will travel to Ysleta and the final week of the season the Eagles will host Del Valle in a game that could determine the 2-4A champion.

With the loss, Eastlake falls to 6-2, 5-1 in District 2-4A.  The Falcons will host Horizon on Halloween.  These last two weeks of the regular season will be extremely entertaining; district races are coming down to the wire, playoff matchups will be set, and there are bound to be some epic finishes to some great games.
