After last season’s two-win campaign in Sean Kugler’s first season as head coach, it is not surprising to see the Miners were predicted to finish last in CUSA’s West Division according to Kugler’s peers with the release of CUSA’s 2014 Preseason Football Awards yesterday.

Even the most optimistic fans would agree there is a higher chance of a repeat from last year than a worst to first Miner miracle. At the end of this upcoming season a majority of UTEP fans would settle for a steady improvement of two to three more wins with a possible bowl berth in year three of the Kugler era.

Still a lot of unknowns with this team, but with Camp Alpine just around the corner maybe UTEP can use their preseason ranking as motivation to prove everyone (including the homers)  wrong.

Not all the news was bad as three Miners made first-team All-preseason, two on offense (RB Aaron Jones and TE Eric Tomlinson) and one on special teams (KR Autrey Golden).

So what do you think Miner fans/followers?
