Football is a vicious sport, and injuries always happen on the field. Most of the time, it involves players who are padded and wear helmets. On occasion, an individual can get hurt while standing on the sidelines. That is exactly what happened today in the Denver Broncos game against the San Diego Chargers.

With just over nine minutes left to play in the second quarter, the Chargers were on offense when quarterback Phillip Rivers was picked off by Denver's Bradley Roby and returned for a touchdown. On the same play, Chargers running back Melvin Gordon was blocked into the sidelines and he collided into Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. The coach took a direct shot to the head and landed backwards. After being attended to by medical personnel, Phillips was carted onto a stretcher and taken to a Denver hospital for further observation. Hopefully, the 46-year coaching veteran is okay and he will be able to return to the sidelines soon.
