Tony Escalante is taking a break from his in-ring boxing career to focus on his new promotions company. His first show, “Border Wars,” will be this Saturday at the Socorro Entertainment Center. El Pasoan Abie Han will return to the ring for the first time in the two months when he challenges 40-year old veteran Bernardo Guereca in an 8-round light middleweight contest. Han and Escalante have fought on the same local boxing cards in past years, so it’s only fitting that the two ring warriors team up again this Saturday night at the Socorro Entertainment Center.

Han’s sister Jennifer will make her return to the ring after a unanimous decision win over Karen Dulin in June. In four years as a professional, Han has won nine of her twelve career bouts, with two losses and one draw. Also on Saturday night’s card, local prospects Sijuola Ade Shabazz, Oscar Valenzuela, Carlos Villa, David Munoz, and Jorge Montoya. As a bonus, Escalante will give every ticket holder a chance to stay at the Socorro Entertainment Center and watch the Alvarez-Mayweather title bout on Pay-Per-View.

Tickets for “Border Wars” start at $10 for general admission and $25 for ringside. Call 915-313-1944 or visit the Socorro Entertainment Center Box Office at 11200 Santo Sanchez. Tickets are also available at the Escalante Boxing Gym at 5700 Cleveland and Paisano next to the Soluna Hotel.
