‘Borat’ National Anthem Plays For Gold Medal Winning Kazakh Athlete (not cool)
March 24, 2012 1:25 PM Kazakhstan’s Mariya Dmitrienko recently won the gold medal for 75 target shooting at the 10th Arab shooting championships in Kuwait. Like many gold medal winning athletes, Dmitrienko must have been swelling with national pride when her country’s national anthem was going to be played last.
There was just one little problem. In a major oversight, the fake national anthem from the 2006 film ‘Borat’ was played instead of the real national anthem from Kazakhstan.
Despite obvious discomfort and embarrassment, Dmitrienko was able to keep her poise as the line ‘Kazakhstan prostitutes cleanest in the region’ blared over the loud speaker.
