So much for the top seed in Conference USA. The UAB Blazers were bounced out of the C-USA Tournament by East Carolina 75-70 in overtime. After winning the C-USA regular season title and being named Coach of the Year, Mike Davis must wait until Selection Sunday to find out if his team will be in the NCAA Tournament or playing as a top seed in the NIT Tournament.

The word from media row at the Haskins Center is that it will be NIT for the Blazers, who continue to disappoint in El Paso. Davis told me yesterday that he has won only once in the DHC, and despite 39 points from C-USA Player of the Year Aaron Johnson, UAB was sent packing. It is also a disappointing outcome for C-USA, who might only send its tournament champ to the NCAAs.
