For three days it looked liked Billy Horschel had a shot at history. The former Florida Gator and alumni of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Tournament was in serious contention at the US Open. Horschel faded on Sunday and finished tied for 4th with a +5 total score.

Horschel's play at Merion was a big story, but his pants made even bigger headlines. Since he is outfitted by Ralph Lauren's RLX brand, they outfitted Horschel with some wild patterns, including octopus-themed pants on Sunday. It reminded me of the late, great author and boxing historian Bert Randolph Sugar, who once wore turquoise pants with a sea lion pattern while covering an Oscar De La Hoya title fight in Las Vegas. I was lucky enough to spend a late evening/early morning with Sugar and his sea lion pants. As a buxom blonde passed us in the hotel lobby, Sugar yelled out "hey honey, nice t*ts!" As she looked at the 70-something Hall of Famer, the lady responded with "nice pants!"
