Awards season is coming to an end, and the biggest of them all looms largest. ResortsCasino.com looks at the Oscars betting markets, in a first for New Jersey bettors.

Best Picture

2018 was a phenomenal year for movies and every nominee would be a worthy winner for Best Picture. Black Panther, released last February, was a landmark film for the Marvel Universe. It became the first superhero film to be nominated for the award but the chance for victory seems slim at +3300.

Green Book was inspired by a true story, the relationship between Tony Vallelonga and Don Shirley, and gives a fascinating insight into society in the 1960’s and shows just how much or how little has changed since then. The comedy-drama is the second favourite to win the Best Picture at +450.

Roma was a movie which managed to pull at our heartstrings from all angles. The illustration of life in Mexico within the 1970’s provides fascinating viewing, while its portrayal of Cleo’s story is one that can resonate with audiences across the world. Converted into a black and white film – Roma is tied with The Favourite as the most-nominated film at the Academy Awards and it is the favourite to receive the Best Picture with odds at -400.

Best Actor

Gary Oldman was the worthy winner of last year’s Best Actor award following his incredible representation of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Five actors are in the frame to follow in Oldman’s footsteps to pick up this year’s award but really it looks like it can be whittled down to just two potential winners.

Christian Bale was given the role of Dick Cheney in American comedy-drama Vice and his portrayal of the former U.S vice president is astonishing. This is Bale’s second nomination for Best Actor, after 2013, and he has a stronger chance this year, but remains second favourite at +250.

Rami Malek was a relative unknown before he starred in the TV series Mr. Robot. His role as a computer hacker led to several accolades and it looks like he may be picking up more awards after his phenomenal interpretation of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

Best Director

One of the most prestigious awards handed out at the Oscars, the gong for Best Director seems to be heading in only one direction this year. Alfonso Cuarón’s Netflix hit Roma has seen the Mexican director clean up at the various awards this season, and it would a major shock if he were to not win the famed statuette at this year’s Oscars. Cuarón is -2000 to be named Best Director.

His closest competitor comes in the form of industry legend Spike Lee. Nominated for his excellent BlacKkKlansman, Lee has directed movies for over 35 years, and has never once won an Oscar, despite receiving five nominations. Could this be the year Spike Lee finally gets his Hollywood gong? Spike Lee is +1000 to be named Best Director.

-2000: Alfonso Cuarón moneyline to win Best Director.
