That's right, baseball is finally back!!! Now, I know opening day is a little less than a month away. However, with the start of my son's t-ball season, Spring Training, college baseball (specifically NMSU) and now the World Baseball Classic which started earlier this week. I find it appropriate to declare that baseball is in full swing.

It's easy to put baseball in the backseat to college hoops this time of year but i'd like to point out that there are some great things happening with "Americas Pastime" Locally and internationally.

On Tuesday, the NMSU Aggies hosted, in state rivals the UNM Lobos, over at Southwest University Park. The Aggies were able to get 12 hits against the Lobos, but the 2 runs that were produced weren't enough as they fell to their rivals 2-8. They will have a chance to redeem themselves against UNM, March 28, in Las Cruces.

The WBC also started the first rounds of play this week with Israel going undefeated in Pool A and advancing to the next round along with the Netherlands. Japan leads the pack in Pool B with Cuba right behind them. Mexico blew a 4 run lead to Italy in the bottom of the 9th yesterday, which puts them in an uphill battle in a fairly tough Pool C. The U.S. will play their first game today against Columbia and need this win to potentially move on from Pool D with the defending champs the Dominicans.
