Game 7 of the 1991 World Series was a turning point in Andy Lee’s life. For better or worse, it was the moment a seven year old Andy Lee became obsessed with sports. Born and raised in El Paso, Andy is the grandson of former major leaguer and UTEP baseball coach Andy Cohen, so it makes perfect sense that a passion for sports runs in the family. After graduating from Coronado High School in 2002, Andy went out west to Cal State Northridge in Los Angeles for two years before returning to Texas to play golf at Division III Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. He graduated with a degree in business in May of 2007, with no intention of using it. After toiling around in Austin, Texas for a year, a chance phone call changed Andy’s career prospects. On a hunch, his mother Marina called Steve Kaplowitz to see if there was any opening at KROD for her son who was passionate about sports but lacked any broadcasting experience or training. As the cliché goes, timing is everything, and Andy was offered a position to replace the departing Quinton Martinez in May of 2008. After working with Steve for four years on SportsTalk, Andy was given the opportunity to host his own show in July 2012. Sports Spin with Andy Lee and Crystal Dominguez airs from 2-4 PM on 600 ESPN El Paso. Andy and Crystal will give their 'spin' on the stories, topics, and issues that affect our community. Andy has also hosted Football Friday Nights with former Franklin coach Tony Grijalva since 2009. In his free time you can find Andy watching sports, playing sports, making friendly ‘wagers’ on sports, or locating obscure Late Night With David Letterman clips from the 1980s on YouTube. He may even post some rare Letterman gems from time to time on the website. Andy is also a six time champion of the LPGA's du Maurier Classic. Drop Andy a line at alee@krod.com. He'll get back to you in a reasonable amount of time.

It seems like just yesterday that El Paso's 'Boys of Spring,' the 2009 state champion Socorro Bulldogs baseball team, secured the final out at the Dell Diamond to bring the state championship back to far west Texas for the first time since 1949.
2012 NMSU Football Schedule
NMSU head football coach DeWayne Walker knows what is at stake for his Aggies in 2012. The quest for their first bowl game in over half a century is well documented, but 2012 is likely the lame duck season for the WAC football members.
2012 UTEP Football Schedule
The 2012 UTEP Miners have one of the toughest non conference schedules in the country, and the media in El Paso rarely passes up an opportunity to remind Coach Price how tough it is.

Sports Spin’s 32 Teams in 32 Days: Jacksonville Jaguars
Unless you are from north Florida, the Jacksonville Jaguars seem to be one of those NFL teams that is just there. Even if you are from north Florida you are likely apathetic because the Jaguars have led the league in home blackouts the last decade.
Virtual Tour: New $60 Million Stadium at Allen High School in Allen, Texas [Video]
Today I referenced the $60 million dollar high school football stadium that was built in the Dallas suburb of Allen. Not a typo! Taxpayers in Allen voted to fund the project in the midst of one of the biggest periods of education cuts our country has seen.
Sports Spin’s 32 Teams in 32 Days: Houston Texans
Twenty-eleven was a watershed season for the Houston Texans. Not only did they qualify for the postseason for the first time in their brief history; they won a game.
Maybe it's because they don't have a quarterback named Manning or Tebow, and they're not the Dallas Cowboys, but Houston is flying under the radar in 2012...
Sports Spin’s 32 Teams in 32 Days: Arizona Cardinals
There is a debate raging in the desert as to who should be the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Despite the sentiment for El Paso's John Skelton, it appears to be Kevin Kolb's job to lose.
Sports Spin’s 32 Teams in 32 Days: St. Louis Rams
St. Louis Rams fans had plenty of reasons to sing the blues is 2011. Fourteen reasons, to be exact. After a promising 7-9 season in 2010, the Rams regressed to 2-14 in 2011.
