AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs says he will discuss a new contract with coach Gus Malzahn after the season.

Jacobs said Tuesday that university officials "certainly want to make sure that he's adequately compensated for similar coaches in the Southeastern Conference." Auburn gave Malzahn a five-year $2.3 million deal after his hiring in December 2012.

Jacobs says that places him in the bottom quarter of SEC coaches.

Malzahn has led the Tigers to an 11-1 record and into the SEC championship game.

Jacobs says the coach is focused on Saturday's game with Missouri and doesn't want to discuss a new contract until after the season.

He said he had a brief conversation with Malzahn's agent, Jimmy Sexton, a couple of weeks ago.
