Socorro's homecoming celebration was put on hold after a pounding defeat to the Andress Eagles.

Andress' Friday night game against Socorro proved to be a showcase for the Eagles' new full time quarterback Ryan Metz.

Metz threw for five touchdown passes, and led his team to a 55-21 victory against Socorro. Metz was more than happy to contribute to the team success, but remained humble.

"Well I mean it feels great, but it was a team effort you know," Metz said. "So that touchdown for me was for the whole team."

However, Metz was not the only player to call attention to himself. Special teams player and outside line backer, Marcus Smoots, who scored two touchdowns in the previous game, returned with yet another two touchdown game accompanied by a pair of quarterback sacks. Smoots seemed to come to the rescue whenever the Eagles faced any type of offensive lull.

"I never get the ball," Smoots said. "So when I do I try to score."

Wide receiver Eddie Sinegal and running back Rashad Chisholm each racked up a pair of touchdowns, along with single touchdowns for wide receivers Devin Simons and Jonathan Chrisman. Place-kicker Angel Gutierrez tallied up the rest of the Eagles' points with seven extra points.

Metz and Smoots were two players that consistently produced points in the the win against the Bulldogs and they hope it carries to the next game.

Andress will be hosting Horizon for their first home game with a record of 1-1. Horizon will be entering the game with two close wins against the Irvin Rockets and El Paso High Tigers and a 2-0 record.
