COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — A member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets who threw a block to protect mascot Reveille VIII from an out-of-bounds SMU player will get his $1,300 senior boots for free.

Sophomore Ryan Kreider (KRY'-der) on Saturday deflected Mustangs receiver Der'rikk Thompson away from the dog during A&M's 58-6 win. Kreider said Monday that he was just doing his job to protect the 8-year-old dog.

The commandant of the Corps, Brig. Gen. Joe Ramirez Jr., was watching the game on TV when he saw Krieder save the famous collie. Ramirez later offered to pay for Kreider's custom-made boots, an Aggie footwear tradition for seniors.

The owner of Victor's Shoe & Boot Repair in Bryan, Albert Caudillo (kuh-DEL'-oh), said Tuesday that the average cost for senior boots, with tax, is $1,326.00.
