Long time ABC 7 news anchor Rick Cabrera spoke to The Iceman Brandon Cohn’s 7th and 8th grade Public Speaking classes at Bassett Middle School today. Cabrera, whose brother Juan is the Superintendent of the El Paso Independent School District fascinated the students with his charisma, enthusiasm and unique stories.
Rick began by introducing himself to the students and talking about his experiences in college with broadcasting, and how he was even in the same program as Steve Kaplowitz at the University of Texas. Cabrera mentioned his intense work ethic and how it is vitally important to incorporate repetition in our lives in order to improve everything that we do and hope to accomplish.
Rick spoke about his early career in sportscasting and how important it is to be passionate about what you do in order to succeed. Cabrera told the students about a few of the numerous athletes he has had the privilege of interviewing over the years including Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neil, and Troy Aikman.
