The Sun Bowl Association (SBA) announced today the 84th annual Hyundai Sun Bowl will be taking place at 1 p.m., Dec. 29, 2017 as a team from the ACC and a team from the PAC-12 face off. For the 50th consecutive year, the game will be broadcast on CBS.

“All games played here are special but this one has a little extra prestige as it marks a 50-year tradition of being televised on CBS,” said SBA Executive Director Bernie Olivas in a press release. “The game this year starts at 1 p.m. local time as CBS has elected to have the game start immediately after the Kentucky-Louisville basketball game.” The Sun Bowl has a contract with CBS through at least 2019, according to the press release. Starting in 1968, it marks the longest relationship between a bowl game and a single television network. The Sun Bowl is also one of the last bowls not moved off to cable — specifically ESPN and its group of sister channels.

Last year’s contest saw North Carolina fail to finish their comeback against Stanford, losing 25-23 in front of just over 42,000 attendees. The Sun Bowl itself dates back to Jan. 1, 1935, when it started as an all-star high school football game. In 1936, the game became a college contest.
