When the holidays really get underway during the week of Thanksgiving, you'll start to get inundated with requests from various charities for donations. There are a lot of worthy charities out there, but there are some that you might not necessarily think about. Here is a list of charities that could use your help. Remember, every little bit counts. You don't have to donate hundreds of dollars to make a difference in someone's life.

Remember, these charities aren't just helping people out during the holidays, they help all year long. Donate please - that will make a huge difference to the people who find themselves down on their luck:

1. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank - This is a well-known charity, but it is extremely important for our region. They help distribute food to other food pantries, churches, schools, soup kitchens and shelters in the El Paso, Culberson and Hudspeth counties. You can donate food or money by clicking here.

2. Opportunity Center for the Homeless - $10 equals 20 meals; $25 equals 3 meals and a night's stay at the shelter for one person. It doesn't take much to make a difference. This organization also funds a shelter for homeless veterans. Get more details and donate by clicking here.

3. El Paso Pug Rescue - This is a pretty specialized rescue organization. They "promote responsible Pug ownership through public education about the unique needs of Pugs and promote spaying/neutering." You can donate by clicking here.

4. Extreme Weather Task Force - There is nothing worse than being cold. You can drop off a new blanket at any local fire stations or El Paso County Sheriff sub-stations. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can mail a check made payable to the APS Silver Star Board, Attention - Grace Ortiz, Adult Protective Services, 401 E. Franklin, Suite 350, El Paso, TX, 79901.
