Kyle Hendricks pitched seven-plus shutout innings, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-0, at Wrigley Field on Saturday night to win the 2016 National League Championship Series in six games and advance to the World Series for the first time since 1945.

Chicago will play the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Game 1 of the World Series Tuesday night.

Willson Contreras and Anthony Rizzo homered off Los Angles ace Clayton Kershaw in Game 6, and Dexter Fowler, Kris Bryant and Ben Zobrist added RBIs as the Cubs finally ended their 71-year streak between World Series appearances.

The press corps named Chicago starter Jon Lester (a win, two runs, nine hits, two walks and nine strikeouts in 13 innings) and second baseman Javier Baez (7-for-22 with five RBIs) co-MVPs of the series.

Kershaw took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings.
